Mobile Monitoring Van (MANSROVER)

Punjab Pollution Control Board has been running Mobile Laboratory for the last about 20 years The Mobile Laboratory was purchased and commissioned in the year 1989. It has been fitted on Tata Chassis 608/37 named as MANSROVER. The super structure and the body of the mobile laboratory is fabricated out of carbon steel/ aluminum. The floor is made a Marine ply sheet. It has facility for collection and on the spot analysis of various physico-chemical parameter of water and air. The mobile laboratory was purchased by the Board with the following objectives:-

Objective

Successful and preventive Environmental policy needs reliable data. As a first step towards the assessment of the status of State Environment. The Punjab Pollution Control Board has undertaken monitoring of the ambient air, ground and surface waters, soil as well as emissions. Mobile Laboratory is a very effective tool for on the spot and insitu-measurements of the various pollutants. The State Board therefore had successfully commissioned its first mobile water and air testing laboratory MANSROVAR on June 3rd, 1989.

The various objectives of the mobile Laboratory are as follows:-

1. Carrying out surprise checks on polluting sources.
2. Checking the efficacy and efficiency of pollution treatment plants.
3. Monitoring of underground and surface waters
4. Determining the pollutants in ambient air and stack emissions.
5. Characterization and EIA of various industries/processes.

Salient features

The fully insulated double walled air tight body of MANSROVAR mounted on TATA 608 chassis is fabricated out of steel and aluminum. The total floor area is approximately 7.5 sqm. Two large working tables, spacious storage and racks have been provided for instruments, glass wares and chemical, MANSROVAR has been designed to use three power sources comprising commercial supply and two generating sets of 3 KVA and 7.5 KVA capacities- as an alternate source. To facilitate the use of multi sources of power supply safety, a specially designed logic and control panel has been provided. A window type air conditioner to ensure safe temperature inside the Laboratory for conducive working environment and safety of sensitive instruments. For accuracy dust free work place has been provided to facilitate the fresh air circulation system.
