Organization Chart of Punjab Pollution Control Board

The Punjab Pollution Control Board has its Head Office at Vatavaran Bhawan, Nabha Road, Patiala. For the effective implementation of the provisions of aforesaid Acts and Rules in the State, Punjab Pollution Control Board has set up Seven Zonal Offices and 13 Regional Offices

The basic organization through which the policies and decisions are implemented is headed by the Chairman of the Board, whereas, the Administrative, Financial Planning and legal affairs are looked into by the Member Secretary under the advice of the Chairman. Besides the basic organization, the Board has set up a Hazardous Waste Management Cell, Bio-Medical Waste management Cell, Environment Protection Squad, Consent Management Cell and a General, Planning and Computerization Cell. The policies and decisions made by the Board are implemented through the following cells constituted according to the functional requirements:

  • General Planning & Computer Cell

Administrative Department

The Department of Science Technologies & Environment mainly constituted to co-ordinates the promotion of S&T inputs in the developmental process with specific reference to rural areas as well as science popularization activities. The Government achieves these objectives through Punjab State Council for Science & Technology. The Council was established on July 21, 1983. Since then, the Council, with the purpose of infusing scientific attitude in the public minds, has laid emphasis to disburse knowledge through various means of display and publications, about the nature of life and its physical surroundings, while signifying the usable aspects of available technologies.

Looking back over the past two decades of existence and reconnoitering as best as possible its activities for the future, the Council’s impact in society is downright conspicuous, though its unfolding has been and would be quite gradual. The Council’s activities are towards:

  • Popularization of science
  • Conservation of environment
  • Consultancy to industries for enduring development.
  • Biotechnological interventions
  • Patent information

To preserve and enhance the quality of the natural environment, including water, air and soil quality; conserve and protect flora, fauna and other natural resources; enforce environmental Acts and Rules made by the Central Government and Government of Punjab; coordinate various environmental policies and programs. The department started its Environment wing after the enactment of Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 to preserve the wholesomeness of water. Punjab Pollution Control Board has been entrusted the task of implementation of environmental laws in the State of Punjab. Board was constituted in the year 1975 to preserve the wholesomeness of water. Subsequently, with the enactment of other environmental laws the responsibility to implement the provisions of such laws was also entrusted to the Punjab Pollution Control Board in the State of Punjab.

The Department is under the Administrative Control of Minister of Cabinet rank for Science Technology & Environment. The Department is headed by The Principal Secretary, Science Technology and Environment assisted by one Joint Secretary.
